Digital Marketing: A framework for success

Whether you are a small business or revamping your digital marketing strategy, the task of developing a Digital Marketing Strategy can leave you feeling confused. We are often asked, “What should I focus on?” or “Where should we spend our money?”

The answers are both simple and complicated!

Today, I will touch on 4 MUST haves in every digital strategy.

  1. SEO
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results.

Here’s how it works: Google (or any search engine you’re using) has a crawler that goes out and gathers information about all the content they can find on the Internet. The crawlers bring all those 1s and 0s back to the search engine to build an index. That index is then fed through an algorithm that tries to match all that data with your query.

SIMPLY PUT: If someone googles “Sliding Door Cupboards”, and you sell or make sliding door cupboards, on a basic level if you website is SEO optimized, it will come up in the index shown to the “searcher”.

  2. Content Marketing
Ever heard the phrase “Content is King”? While some might argue the King has been “dethroned”, that is not true. Content rules, not in isolation of course, but it is still a central part of every digital marketing strategy.

Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.

Content marketing can be an extremely effective tool at the beginning of the “sales funnel” by drawing prospects in. It allows your brand and business to become relevant to the consumer.

  3. Social Media
Social media is a great way to broaden your audience at a lower cost than some of your other marketing efforts. Much like a search engine, you can create both organic posts for a business page, as well as sponsored ads and content to reach beyond your current followers. Social media is a great tool when it comes to remarketing by showing new content, services or products to past website visitors.

Choosing the right Social Media Networks is critical. This choice has to be driven by an understanding of your target audience. Furthermore, tailoring content to respective SM networks and audiences will enhance engagement.

  4. Email Marketing
Email remains an effective tool to reaching potential and existing clientele, without much effort. But many businesses struggle to get to the point of “sending emails” because they don’t have “leads”. Lead generation is critical. It has to be linked to all your external communications, from Social Media to sign-in registers in your office, or at events.

SIMPLY PUT: To execute an effective Email Marketing strategy, a comprehensive lead generation strategy is critical.

We hope that these high-level overviews of some of the most effective digital marketing strategies give you some insight as to what you need in your Digital Marketing Journey.
